چکیده

The objectives were to evaluate the effects of increasing metal micronutrient concentrations and silicon (Si) on plant growth susceptibility Pythium root rot with hydroponically grown lettuce (Lactuca sativa). In first experiment, was in hydroponic solutions micronutrients iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) supplied at either 0, 2.5, 5, or 10 mg∙L−1. A standard commercial solution also included as a control, 2 Fe, 1 Mn, 0.5 Cu, Zn second Si 7, 14, 28, 56 Hydroponic treatment for both experiments dosed myriotylum (Pythium treatment) 1.80 × 104 oospores per L deionized water non-Pythium control. Data collected leaf SPAD chlorophyll content, shoot height width, total fresh mass, disease severity. Increasing Cu concentration decreased severity but reduced yield. other tended reduce had no significant influence disease. Supplementing effect slightly mg∙L−1 Si. Results this study suggest that management nutrition is not an effective strategy and, best, risky controlling lettuce. Growers would likely benefit from maintaining within ranges (in mg∙L−1) 5.5 0.1 2.0 0.6 Zn, 0 28 many crops. has potential negatively quality certain species, testing necessary phytotoxicity risks prior implementing practice. Overall, successful mitigation pathogens production requires combination proper sanitation, best cultural practices, appropriate system design, implementation design multi-barrier approach.

Timing Pseudomonas chlororaphis applications to control Pythium aphanidermatum, Pythium dissotocum, and root rot in hydroponic peppers

The ability of the microbial agent Pseudomonas (Ps.) chlororaphis Tx-1 to suppress Pythium aphanidermatum and Pythium dissotocum, and control root rot, was investigated as a function of time of agent application and pathogen inoculation in vegetativestage sweet peppers grown in single-plant hydroponic units. The agent was applied to the nutrient solution at 1 10 CFU/mL and roots were inoculated...

Effects of Nitrogen Fertilizers on the Growth and Nitrate Content of Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.)

Nitrogen is an essential element for plant growth and development; however, due to environmental pollution, high nitrate concentrations accumulate in the edible parts of these leafy vegetables, particularly if excessive nitrogen fertilizer has been applied. Consuming these crops can harm human health; thus, developing a suitable strategy for the agricultural application of nitrogen fertilizer i...

Effects of industrial waste water on heavy metal accumulation, growth and biochemical responses of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.).

The waste water showed high values of total solid (TS), hardness and chloride with slightly alkaline pH along with high concentrations of Cr (2.03 mg l(-1)), Ni (1.59 mg l(-1)) and Zn (0.46 mg l(-1)). The concentration of Cu (0.21 mg l(-1)) and Zn in industrial waste water was low than Ni and Cr. The diluted (25 and 50%), undiluted (100%) waste water was used to irrigate the lettuce plants grow...

Toxic effects of copper-based nanoparticles or compounds to lettuce (Lactuca sativa) and alfalfa (Medicago sativa).

The increased production and use of nanoparticles (NPs) has generated concerns about their impact on living organisms. In this study, nCu, bulk Cu, nCuO, bulk CuO, Cu(OH)2 (CuPRO 2005, Kocide 3000), and CuCl2 were exposed for 15 days to 10 days-old hydroponically grown lettuce (Lactuca sativa) and alfalfa (Medicago sativa). Each compound was applied at 0, 5, 10, and 20 mg L(-1). At harvest, we ...

Integrated Effects of Root-Zone Temperatures and Phosphorus Levels on Aeroponically-Grown Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) in the Tropics

In this study, butterhead lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. cv. Baby Butter) plants were grown at three root-zone temperatures (RZTs): 25 o C, 30 o C and ambient-RZT (A-RZT) ranging from 26 o C-42 o C while their shoots were maintained at hot ambient temperature ranging from 26 o C-42 o C. Three phosphorus (P) concentrations: -25% P (minus P, 23.25ppm), control (31.00ppm) and +25% P (plus P, 38.75ppm)...
